Learn about glass

Those of you that have been in the shop recently may have noticed the addition of a new artistic medium: glass.

Glass fusing is fun, easy, and the pieces always come out looking beautiful. We offer glass in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors so you can create a unique customized piece.

To start, you choose the size, shape, and color of your base piece. Different sized pieces can be molded or ’slumped’ into a dish, a plate, a bowl, a votive candleholder, or kept flat. We also offer necklace-making kits or hooks to make ornaments for smaller sized glass bases. Here are a few examples of pieces we’ve made:

After choosing a base, you will have a wide selection of colored glass to begin creating your design. One of our staff will help you get started creating your piece, and will teach you how to cut glass pieces, layer precut pieces on to your base, and make designs using ‘frit’ (ground-up glass that functions like glitter). We also have ‘child-safe’ glass available for children, so feel free to make this a whole family experience.

The process itself is very very simple, although your design can be as simple or as complex as you choose to make it.
